Appreciate you sticking it out to wade into the post-debate analysis. Kind of shocked that they are sort of admitting reality -- especially the "This was Kamala's first pick?" angle.
The "this was Kamala's first pick" comment was from the token Republican that CNN puts on their panel. The rest of the panel jumped all over him for that comment, as they always do. He functions as a strawman.
The "Trump's policies are better than the Democrats'" rationale for voting Trump was on display in this debate.
Harris eschewed Josh Shapiro because he's Jewish, despite her need for a boost in Pennsylvania and Shapiro being far better than Walz. She made her pick the same way Biden picked her - for identity reasons. Moreover, she leaned into her party's straw man of white men and believed her own propaganda, which suggested that Walz could win "middle American white guy" support despite being a disgusting caricature of actual character.
Meanwhile, Trump made an excellent pick, not only for this election cycle but the next one. He made the pick before Biden withdrew, thinking that this drubbing would have been Vance vs Harris, but Kamala's idiocy ensured that it was just as much of a drubbing after the primary coup.
Well done. As a Minnesotan many in this state know Walz is not VP material nor Governor material. I do wish with Walz talking about MN so much Vance would have highlighted Walz’s economic record in the state: 6th highest in state taxes, went from a $19B budget surplus to deficit spending, signed the most liberal abortion bills in the country (to date 9 babies born from failed abortions were set aside with comfort care and allowed to die), most aggressive trans bill in the states…I wish those facts could have been highlighted. Walz is a progressive left Dem hiding in the “Awh shucks” clothing of a moderate.
When Waltz said hate speech should be illegal, the natural follow up question is who gets to define what as hate speech. For example, the XX/XY clothing brand by Jennifer Sey tried to run this ad on TikTok and was told it was hate speech: https://youtu.be/0HYRsFNbm3o
Jennifer Sey followed up with TikTok and they admitted "hate speech" was a direct result of the political environment.
I spent some time with a progressive friend today. We talked quite a bit about the debate. Despite my fairly recent recovery from TDS and subsequent disillusionment with most things Democrat, she still considers Walz the clear winner: because Trump! Trump lies!
I think winning just means you can rationalize the performance of your preferred team to have been superior.
Keyword "performance". For two or three decades these so-called debates have simply been beauty contests that don't mean much, although they would be much more entertaining if they included a swimsuit competition and talent contest.
I didn't watch the full debate just the clips here and elsewhere, but it's really striking that Walz is even more socially awkward than Harris who at least has learned to stick to the script. His rambling response to the question about China about riding a bicycle in rural Nebraska and also being a teacher was him fumbling a tried and true strategy about uncomfortable question - just answer a different question - and he didn't even manage that. And self-deprecation doesn't really work if you're that unimpressive so all you got from his first answer is that he's a knucklehead. At least he didn't lie when pressed, people who live in the perpetual present of broadcast media often think they can still get away with that like recordings and the internet don't exist.
I don't think that the VP debates really sway anything in politics but I think it's a glimpse into how the next generation of Republicans seems to finally have mastered dealing with the media, we've also seen it with Vivek Ramaswamy. Instead of crying foul that they play dirty and being deferential just treat them as the partisan hacks they are, and yes even if they're women and it looks ungentlemanly.
I also love the fact-checking on technicalities, as if it's important what the legal status of some migrants is or whether or not Harris held the official title of "border czar".
Appreciate all the clips. You could feel the contempt from those moderators towards Vance and he handled in masterfully.

That sure was a great point. Can you imagine who else she would fill the executive branch with if that’s her first choice? Yikes.
the question is whether Shapiro turned down the job or they did not choose him for nefarious reasons. He would have guaranteed PA one would think.

Yeah, Walz was literally shaking his head as Vance said both parties should reject censorship!
Not a question Walz answered either.
Who in the medical community is watching those babies die?! Shocked that you say 9 babies! This story needs to be told.
Attached is the article I read for my info. After re-reading the article I need to correct the figure form 9 to 8. As you stated this story needs to be told. https://thedispatch.com/article/claims-about-children-born-alive-after-abortion-attempts-in-minnesota-are-true/
“I’m now positive that Vance will be president within the next decade or so, regardless of whether Trump wins in November.”
True

Sigh.
I would really like to know what constitutes winning in some peoples eyes. Did the debate convince anyone to change their vote?

Speaking as a woman, the mansplaining complaints are bullshit.
Damn, it's right next to "he did a racism" on my bingo card.
Boy do they miss Romney and Ryan who knew their place and how to lose (with grace.)
Great job. Loved the txts. Rare example of David Frum’s humor! I’ve been a Vance fan from the jump & now folks understand my enthusiasm.
Vance is as good as I hoped he was. Walz is as much of a doofus as he first appeared.

I took so much satisfaction from the leftist meltdown. It's glorious.
More of Walz getting the MSM Biden Coup treatment, lol...
This was a great recap, thank you! Wanted to tune in but my three year old was being quite difficult at bedtime as it happens.
Comment of the night: "... a guy who credibly seems like he doesn't want other people to die on the debate stage..."
🤣
Appreciate this!
