As midterms creep up, so does the hysteria.
Midterm elections will soon be upon us, so 'tis the season for wildly alarmist propaganda in the form of predicting dire consequences for democracy if Democrats lose their grip on congressional power, which is almost certain to happen because the issues they champion are truly among the most divisive claptrap you could possibly get behind, and they’ve been systematically enriching the ruling class at middle America’s expense, eroding our natural and constitutionally guaranteed rights and liberties, degrading white Americans and condoning anti-White racism, and dishonoring our heritage and history—among countless other affronts.
And, very unfortunately, Twitter is now in the hands of a man who might as well be the spawn of Satan himself, so the Left has been sounding off from the rooftops about how this is Extremely Dangerous to Our Democracy™, and Democrats are inconsolable after losing their favorite toy.
To the surprise of no one, these censorious, nasal-twanged, wannabe Bolsheviks have been chiding people for not being sufficiently outraged and worried about the current state of affairs, doing everything possible to scare people into voting Blue.
“Voters See Democracy in Peril, but Saving It Isn’t a Priority,” lamented the New York Times.
Speaking to the National Education Association, Biden declared, “Democracy itself is on the ballot” in November.
Obama echoed that sentiment on Friday during a speech in Georgia, warning that “the future of American democracy is on the ballot.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Queen of Hyperbole and a fan favorite here at Euphoric Recall, all but signed up for the “Make an Ass of Yourself” contest at the State Fair the other day when she said we’re currently “facing an environment of fascism” similar to the days of Jim Crow.
The desperation in the air is palpable. Case in point—Here’s the Fetterman campaign with what can only be described as a laughable attempt at a staged sign-burning blamed on those dirty no good MAGA-loving ne’er-do-well Republicans out in “deep red Lawrence County”:
How exactly did you manage to snap a photo mid-burn, as it were? Are we to believe that this picture was actually taken by the perps, who decided to linger after the act and revel in the blaze? Come on, man.
“We are outraged at this deliberate act of hate we photographed while it was happening. Please donate.”
The Paul Pelosi Incident
It’s rather obvious that some people are panicking because of what they perceive to be imminent unfavorable election results and are seizing on and spinning anything they can to try and avoid that outcome, which is why the Left views the attack on stock market phenom Paul Pelosi as a godsend.
By that I don’t mean they’re actually gleeful about it. I believe them when they say they’re horrified and aggrieved, and I wish Paul Pelosi a rapid and full recovery and the very best to his family. Rather, the existence of a far-right, conspiracy-driven lunatic who assailed the Speaker of the House’s husband is a godsend to Blue elites, who insist MAGA domestic terrorists are everywhere but consistently have trouble finding any.
The commentariat have stuck to the same surface level understanding of the event, which is that in recent weeks the assailant wrote a series of right-wing blog posts filled with screeds against Black and Jewish folks, Democrats, the media, and transgender people, and, having been radicalized by right-wing propaganda, sought to kill Nancy Pelosi.
Digging deeper reveals a much more nuanced story.
Local independent journalist Michael Shellenberger appears to be the only one to have actually taken the time to look into the assailant, one David DePape, even going to the dude’s home and talking to his neighbors. It’s an excellent example of what real journalism looks like, and there’s abundant evidence being ignored by the media that shows DePape’s actions were driven, fundamentally, not by political radicalization, but by drug-induced psychosis.
The media of course zeroed in on DePape’s recent blog posts, and yet the guy’s home has a Black Lives Matter sign in the window, and hanging from the tree out front is an LGBT rainbow flag emblazoned with a marijuana symbol. The camper van on the driveway sports bumper stickers that are left-wing and conspiratorial.
An open drug scene, the place is apparently more of a homeless encampment than an actual home. Random specimens come by ‘round the clock to partake in the use of a potent psychedelic, ibogaine. Per Shellenberger:
Neighbors described DePape as a homeless addict with a politics that was, until recently, left-wing, but of secondary importance to his psychotic and paranoid behavior. “What I know about the family is that they’re very radical activists,” said one of DePape’s neighbors, a woman who only gave her first name, Trish. “They seem very left. They are all about the Black Lives Matter movement. Gay pride. But they’re very detached from reality. They have called the cops on several of the neighbors, including us, claiming that we are plotting against them. It’s really weird to see that they are willing to be so aggressive toward somebody else who is also a lefty.”
File that under “Quotes you won’t see in the mainstream media.”
So basically, this David DePape, an illegal immigrant, has a history of drug use and schizophrenia, and has been in the grip of a decade-long drug-induced psychosis. The Washington Post reported that last week, DePape wrote in a blog post about how “an invisible fairy attacked an acquaintance and sometimes appeared to him in the form of a bird.” According to the paper, “he wrote that he was looking to purchase a fairy house on Etsy but was frustrated that the doors were painted and so could not be used by a fairy. ‘They have lots of fairy houses but NONE of them are MADE for fairies.’”
This is not the picture of a man radicalized by rhetoric or conspiracy theories. Instead, it shows someone who was already disturbed and potentially dangerous before he posted anything far-rightish. Moreover, there is zero evidence that this was a case of “domestic terrorism fueled in part by violent, racist, antisemitic, anti-democratic rhetoric,” as Rep. Bennie Thompson, the chairman of the House panel investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, claimed, but that hasn’t stopped people from treating DePape’s recent bigoted blog posts as dispositive proof.1
Predictably, the incident has been seized upon by the usual political opportunists — mainstream media scribes and talking heads who love carrying water for the Democratic Party — and there’s been non-stop coverage, because whenever there’s the slightest, remotely exploitable tragedy or hint of violence, the same reporters, editors, producers, and politicians insist that blood was spilled because of the Right’s rhetoric.
They’ve deliberately mischaracterized DePape as some militant right-wing fanatic for political purposes, irresponsibly claiming it was ideology and not mental illness that led to the attack, and they’re using the crime to supplement their favorite narrative, which is that Republicans are dangerous and foment political violence and divisiveness, and the only thing standing between them and Our Democracy™ is your midterm vote.
The whole dynamic is so trite: Something bad happens; Conservatives sigh and say to themselves, “Here we go”; CNN and Friends tie the incident to the “right-wing” because the perp’s uncle’s friend drives a lifted truck with a Trump bumper sticker; a national conversation ensues about how the Right is Extremely Dangerous to Our Democracy™.
“The Republican Party and its mouthpieces now regularly spread hate and deranged conspiracy theories. It is shocking, but not surprising, that violence is the result. As citizens, we must hold them accountable for their words and the actions that follow,” tweeted Hillary Clinton, a figure of import who we all know is a beacon of honesty and morality and good-faith politics and certainly played no role in federal intelligence and law enforcement agencies trying to frame the former president with a phony “crime,” launching a pointless two-year investigation over a fraud, then impeaching him over the timing of foreign aid payments, all the while lying daily to the American public.
Reuters led a news report thusly: “Hate speech, online extremism fed Pelosi attack, terror experts believe.”2
“Now we’ve witnessed what was almost certainly an assassination attempt on Speaker Nancy Pelosi amid a brutal attack on her husband in their San Francisco home. 2022 isn't 1968, but the climate of violence can't be ignored,” intoned Politico, which as of late has been making quite the effort to be considered among the most overwrought of publications.
“Assault of Paul Pelosi was attack on democracy. The risks keep growing,” read one of approximately 40 Washington Post headlines about the attack.
According to the New York Times, this was an ideologically-driven attack on gender, class, and “the whole idea of a wealthy San Francisco liberal woman,” and the product of “more than a decade of Republican efforts to demonize and dehumanize the most powerful woman in Washington.”
While on Meet the Press, Sen. Amy Klobuchar said the attack highlights the importance of “mak[ing] sure we’re not electing more election deniers who are following Donald Trump down this road,” and that “we have to do something about this amplification of this election-denying hate speech that we see on the Internet.”
First of all, how is any of that even related? Explain to me the logic that lead’s one to presume election denialism bears some responsibility here. And second of all, lady, your party has literally spent the past year funding “election-denying” Republican candidates, infusing their campaigns with tens of millions of dollars and helping them win primary contests because the DNC thinks they’ll be easier to beat come election day.
Note well that all of this presupposes an understanding of David DePape’s mind that simply doesn’t exist, which would be apparent to anyone who paused for a minute to consider and absorb the evidence. But sure, let’s fight over whether or not this guy who had a psychotic break is the embodiment of the GOP instead of discussing the deeply idiotic drug decriminalization policies that San Francisco has championed over the past few years—laws that, had they been enforced, might have resulted in DePape getting the psychiatric help he needed before victimizing others.
The Hypocrisy Reaches New Heights

No, political violence isn’t unique to the Right, you absolute moron. This is such an egregious lie that it makes the mind reel and completely divests the Washington Post of any journalistic authority it might’ve still had. Just like the Times, it now exists solely to provide its readers with dogmatic relief from doubt.
Recall just a few days ago that a Rubio canvasser was attacked and brutally beaten.
Back in June of 2017, a gunman walked onto a baseball field at Eugene Simpson Park in Alexandria, Virginia, opening fire on politicians and wounding House GOP Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana and four others. The shooter was a left-wing political activist and campaign worker for Bernie Sanders who was “fueled by rage against Republican legislators” and radicalized by MSNBC.
In 2018, Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) was told she would be decapitated and have her limbs cut off because she supported the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh. She also had windows smashed at her home.
And let’s not forget the attack on Rand Paul:
Last month, some scumbag spaz of the highest order named Shannon Brandt intentionally hit and killed 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson with his truck. Why? Because Brandt thought the kid was “part of a Republican extremist group.” That occurred shortly after Biden gave his speech condemning half the country as budding fascists. The media barely acknowledged the story, let alone covered it.
More than 100 crisis pregnancy centers, pro-life organizations, and churches have been attacked since the May 2nd leak of the Supreme Court draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade. According to a list updated this month by the Family Research Council (FRC), a Christian nonprofit, at least 38 churches across the country have been firebombed, smashed, ransacked, or vandalized with pro-abortion graffiti and threatening messages since the leak. At least 58 other pro-life clinics and organizations suffered the same fate, according to the same report. And while more than a dozen attacks have been claimed by the left-wing pro-abortion group Jane’s Revenge, not a single member of the underground group has been arrested.
Speaking of Roe v. Wade, recall that Brett Kavanaugh was nearly assassinated by some dude who flew across the country equipped with a glock, a chest rig, zip ties, screwdrivers, and shoe mufflers. In other words, he was serious, and the Kavanaugh family was lucky that cops were stationed as sentries throughout the night. Political rhetoric from Democrats, circulating Kavanaugh’s address on the internet, and organizing protests outside his home were cited as contributing factors.
The way Democrats and the media treated the Kavanaugh assassination attempt relative to how they’ve reacted to the Paul Pelosi attack is particularly illustrative and nothing less than shameful. Joe Biden released one statement on the Kavanaugh incident through his press secretary. He never personally condemned it. Not once. And even after the attempt was narrowly thwarted, the White House still encouraged the ongoing protests at the homes of conservative justices, which violated federal law.
The New York Times ran just a single article on the assassination attempt—buried on page A20. Most outlets didn’t cover it at all.
The Pelosi attack, however, has been on the front page of the New York Times for three days in a row, and there’s been virtually non-stop media coverage. As Schellenberger points out, the double standard is brought into sharper relief when you consider that Nicholas John Roske, the suspect in the plot against Kavanaugh, has shown no signs of psychosis, while DePape might as well be the poster child. Indeed, according to the FBI, Roske was motivated by pretty clear-cut political fanaticism:
Roske told people on-line that he was “gonna stop roe v wade from being overturned” by killing Kavanaugh and two other Republican-nominated Supreme Court Justices. “Two dead judges ain’t gonna do nothing,” an unnamed user responded. “You would die before you killed them all. Responded Roske, “yeah but I could get at least one, which would change the votes for decades to come, and I am shooting for 3.” Just last week, Roske’s attorneys told a federal judge that they have no concerns over whether Roske is mentally competent to stand trial.
Roske allegedly researched how to murder individuals and, according to court documents, specifically told investigators that he was angry about the leaked Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe v. Wade.
Conversely, there remains no evidence that DePape did any serious planning before breaking into Pelosi’s place, in his underwear, with a hammer.
The point I’m trying to make here is obvious enough: Political violence is a bipartisan issue. But when someone on the Left is attacked by someone on the Right, it’s treated as a sign of a major trend toward political violence and is blamed on rhetoric; and when someone on the Right is attacked by someone on the Left, it’s an anomaly with no broader significance.
It’s simple. Your side’s rhetoric is dangerous incitement. My side’s rhetoric is righteous anger.
“Domestic terrorism” is yet another term that’s been thoroughly diluted of meaning thanks to the Left using it as a ridiculously overbroad catch-all.
Experts believe. Note how perfectly that plays into their campaign for greater censorship. Note also the use of “hate speech” here, that ever-elastic term under which all manner of rhetoric might be swept, so long as the right people have said it.

He's right. Democracy can only be saved by voting out of office every Democrat except two: Henry Cuellar and the Mayor of El Paso.
The image that pops into my head is of the Rwandan genocide being performed as a 6th-grade class play.
The Democrats are like baby Hutus, or comic book Hutus, compulsively spouting eliminationist rhetoric—the MAGA Tutsis are evil vermin who are responsible for any and every act of violence (even the violence committed against them!), we cannot let them have any power or else they will destroy the country and all we hold sacred—but with one eye on the audience, hoping that everyone claps and recognizes how cute they are, and one eye on their parents, because they need an authority figure close by to protect them and mop up tears if something goes wrong.
And every song, every line of dialogue, repeats the same words, either as a threat or some other form of emotional manipulation—Nazis slavery Jim Crow, everything my opponents do is Nazis slavery Jim Crow, everything bad that happens is Nazis slavery Jim Crow. Will these people ever learn a new tune?
But at least when you watch a play performed by 6th graders you don't mind the repetition and sentimentality, the world depicted as a juvenile fantasy, bc they're kids and don't know any better (and they're cute)—but with the Democrats and their media wing only 2 truthful explanations are possible: either they're liars trying to manipulate people they think are stupider than them to do their bidding; or else they're sincere and really do live inside a cartoon fantasy of juvenile narcissism where they're always Good and the other team is always Evil and the rest of us exist to flatter and obey them.
Either way, when toddlers throw a tantrum and won't stop, it's time to give them a pacifier and put them to bed. The same goes for just about our entire political class and legacy media.
