Brad, you are truly a cruel and heartless monster. What about our "values"? What about Emma Lazarus and her poem?

You seem to have left out one crucial constituency here: how else will rich liberals get to publicly perform their compassion and display their obvious moral superiority if we don't allow America to instate DEI on a global scale and give the poor and brown the Equity that our evil white ancestors stole from them?

Imagine if the Soros clan, the Chan-Zuckerburgs, the NGO Karenocracy, the Ivy League, and Rage Against the Machine don't have millions of migrants to tend to daily, and are robbed of the opportunity to pass out free homes and phones and jobs?

Anyone can be a citizen, anyone can belong to a society or participate in the politics of a nation-state—but it takes someone truly enlightened to want to destroy all these things because of their obvious inability to achieve utopia and spread self-esteem around in an equitable fashion.

Just remember this for later in the decade (or year) when America erupts in spasms of violence and chaos because of our betters' desperate need to live out John Lennon's "Imagine": they were only trying to make the world a better place!

PREACH IT BROTHER. Ultimately the Democrats want these people turned into voters -- or at least ballots.

Expand full comment

Of course granting citizenship to many millions of migrants is an inevitability, but another reason for this is the ongoing urban exodus.

California, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania each lost a congressional seat in 2020 and, as districts are created not by the number of citizens they hold but by the total number of residents, these states (esp their Dem Party reps) need more bodies to hold onto their seats and their Congressional power.

Even if you don't give the vote to this 'batch' of illegals, in 18 years they'll have completely legal "American" voters.

21st century America is well on the way to Brazilification. Global capital has demanded that our pesky middle class give up fair wages and pensions, then their jobs, and then to have them (us) immiserated with their (our) citizenship diluted, and all these fantasies are being fulfilled.

We will miss the mostly safe and prosperous, mostly middle class, liberal democracy we once had when it's gone.

Come to Florida Clever! Big brains are welcome.

But are those big brains big enough to escape the treachery of this administration?

As Federalism wanes and an ever-stronger central totalitarian U.S. Government continues to steamroll over what was once America, the difference in life between the "many States" is being reduced to not much more than the weather.

you may have explained something. The MA gov just closed a community center in Roxbury (which is also shedding Walgreens stores) in order to house illegal immigrants. I was wondering why squad member Pressley sold out her own peeps again. this explains it.

Under the Constitution, every person, regardless of citizenship, is counted for congressional apportionment . 8M is ten seats.

Expand full comment

Great essay, Brad.

The GOP's performance art of impeaching Mayorkas unfortunately won't slow the flow one bit, as he will be immediately replaced by another obedient apparatchik. If they slid 8M+ across the river over the last 3 years we can expect somewhere north of 10M by inauguration day. Not counting the "get aways" of course.

The real question is what comes next. Given the right combination of luck and Karma, Trump gets sworn in for a second term where he will of course have the authority to stop the flood and maybe even complete the wall. But even if he has some authority to expel Biden's 10M new "Democrats in waiting" the Swamp will fight him tooth and nail such that he will spend his final 4 years simply battling court cases while the illegals remain -- and breed like rabbits, spitting out litters of anchor puppies until their uteruses fall out. I can already picture the Monty Python musical skit "Every Sperm Is Sacred" in my mind.

I am seriously afraid that we are past the point of no return. The same self-righteous virtue signaling twats screeching about "the unwashed" now invading their precious sanctuary cities and want them relocated will suddenly re-develop their feigned compassion once Trump attempts any Operation Return to Sender.

Just look at Western Europe FFS. And those invaders were invited. Sharia law is coming for the West.

CP gave some background on the possible behind the scenes thinking but the story in roxbury is asign for the times. The gov of Mass closed a community center in Roxbury (District 7 Squad member Ayanna Pressley rep) one of the most distressed neighborhoods in New England the gov said she had no choice as apparently Newton and all of the other rich districts were somehow unavailable. Unavailable? Unavailabe because if they did that in Newton you'd see hell break lose. same as in Naperville IL when the councilman proposed a sign up sheet to share homes. No one did of course.

The virtue on display only lasts as long as they do not have to do anything and the entitled rich not only hate the poor, they think they are virtuous for doing so.

I have found the Biden administration's management of the border to be obscene. I was particularly appalled by his "verdict first, trial later" actions against BP horseback agents that photographically appeared to be using horse reins as whips against people.

That being said, I want to give benefit of doubt to the bipartisan Senate legislation, and withhold judgment (e.g. the 5,000 limit) until it's complete, as Senator Lankford requested.

Also, I'll add clarification on the Scalia references to Arizona border control. Important to recall that he wrote a dissent from the majority opinion that held that federal policy trumped the state's. Doesn't mean he is wrong, just that his words carry little legal weight.

This from PRB.org 1999..

“Nearly 70,000 foreigners arrive in the United States every day. Most of these travelers are visitors, not settlers. More than 60,000 are tourists, business people, students, or foreign workers who are welcomed at airports and border crossings. About 2,200 daily arrivals are immigrants or refugees who have been invited to become permanent residents of the United States. Finally, about 5,000 foreigners make unauthorized entries each day. About 4,000 of them are apprehended just after they cross the U.S.-Mexico border. But nearly 1,000 elude detection, or slip from legal to illegal status by violating the terms of their visas. Many will remain, while others will return to their home countries.”

In a hurry but the above from1999 just to illustrate that our border has always been a busy place. Closing it at 5000 isn’t that sloppy. Also of the total encounters at the southern border today, from 40 to 60 percent, I think as high as percent are “deported”, turned away. The others are given dates to appear at immigration court,n which is a huge problem given the underfunded immigration/asylum judiciary. In fact Biden has deported larger proportion of encounters than Trump. The numbers are huge now for numerous reasons, including end of Covid, NAFTA, and US meddling in destabilizing any number of central and S American countries. I fully support closing down the border at this point, as Biden’s policies are obviously not working, but nor are they adequately funded, which brings us to the current shitshow in the House, sitting on a bill that provides authorizations for closing border or limiting the number granted temp status. It’s pretty far fetched that Dems alone have this great plan to get more voters when Reagan, Bush II and GOP have been complicit as well in building this crises all along.

Yeah there is no arguing with you. Seem to remember a pretty much closed border when PDT was president, without breaking any laws. What changed? Oh yeah, Biden rescinded every working policy of PDT’s, and treasonously opened the border. But whatever.

Expand full comment

The policies PDT put in place, remain in Mexico, no you can’t come in and no you aren’t a refugee because you’re broke. Those policies kept the border essentially closed in that they knew they weren’t getting in easily, and would be sent back, easily. Keeps them from coming altogether. Disingenuous at best, Ann.

For a period of 24 mos before Jan 21, approx 700000 people (52%) arrested at the border were released, 5000 detained, and 650000 people were expelled/repatriated. So if that’s how you define a closed border, fine. No arguing that.

Well I don’t know. But I just wanted to make the point that we assimilate a lot of immigrants in this country, always have, and that is by design. A general question, really curious about this:

There seems to be a tendency for defenders of the current administration to reach back for statistics from 20 years ago as proof that it was worse back then. I’ve seen this related to crime stats and the border issue. Crime was higher in the 90’s! Illegals have been crossing the border for decades!

My reaction to these points is: yes, crime was worse then. Yes, illegal immigration has been a problem for decades. But crime has gone down since then, and the Trump policies were reducing illegal crossings.

I prefer that when problems are getting fixed, that they stay fixed, don’t you? So why the urge to make comparisons to a time when things were worse, and virtually ignore the fact that progress was made, but now there is a relapse?
