I read the above story last night. It’s good and I highly recommend it, but I should warn you that it’s going to make you both incredibly sad and incredibly mad. (More so the latter, at least for me.)
The FBI is a key player in the tale, and what I read only served to further erode the little trust and respect I have for the agency.
Below is a post that I wrote a while back and which I’m resharing here. It’s long and maybe a little convoluted and involved but I would give it a try if you’re currently under the misguided and antiquated impression that the FBI is an honorable organization and its agents deserve our praise.
To be sure, the FBI isn’t, like, Al Qaeda or something. But ever since 9/11 they’ve morphed into an entity that basically does whatever it wants (which is a lot of shady, sketchy shit), regardless of whether it’s morally right, or for the good of the country, or unlawful.
As an addendum, two things:
1.) The FBI played a significant role in 1/6.
This isn’t conspiracy bullshit or me just blowing my Trump trumpet or whatever; evidence has made this clear for months now. (Glenn Greenwald has done some really good reporting on this, too.) The FBI has admitted to having informants in the three groups it claims were responsible for the 1/6 protest: the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and the Three Percenters. Even The New York Times acknowledged that the FBI was directly communicating with one of these informants as he made his way inside the Capitol building, and that “federal law enforcement had a far greater visibility into the assault on the Capitol, even as it was taking place, than was previously known.”
Why does this matter? Well, as this really good Revolver article (written before the FBI admitted that it did indeed have informants involved in 1/6) states:
If it turns out that the federal government (FBI, Army Counterintelligence, or a similar agency) had undercover agents or confidential informants embedded in any of the groups involved in 1/6, the “federal intelligence agencies failing to warn of a potential for violence” looks less like an innocent mistake and more like something sinister.
Indeed, if the federal government knew of a potential for violence in or around the Capitol on 1/6 and failed to call for heightened security, the agencies responsible may in fact be legally liable for the damages incurred during that day.
It is unsettling to entertain the possibility that the federal government knew of a potential for violence on 1/6 and did nothing to stop it. It presents the question: why would agencies, or certain elements within, sit back and let something like this happen on purpose?
So yeah, it’s a big fucking deal, regardless of what the mainstream media and the Democratic party have said in their concerted effort to hide the truth.
2.) The FBI played a significant massive role in the plot to kidnap MI Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
They created it, orchestrated it, and to the extent that the kidnapping plan even happened, carried it out. At least half of the conspirators, including the plot leaders and organizers, were working for/at the behest of the FBI from start to finish. And that’s what much of the post above is about, the Whitmer kidnapping plot and how it’s basically the definition of entrapment, but it’s also about how crooked the FBI has gotten since 9/11.
