So many times I see a quote from a liberal, like this one from Rosie O’Donnell, and I just wonder where they’re reading the news and how they could be so off base. Yes, Kamala got stadium crowds a few times when she had a famous musician as part of her rally, but to say Donald Trump ‘can’t’ fill a stadium? Even if she only saw video after the Butler assassination attempt she should know better. (And I know the answer is she gets her news from the NYT, MSNBC, etc I’m just venting about people in their bubble not realizing they’re in a bubble. It happens on the conservative side too, but it’s harder for us because liberal opinion is everywhere.)
He has scorched their brains and they have burned their cerebral cortices down to the cerebellum aka lizard brain: intense tribal hatred and terror have made it impossible for them to think or speak clearly. Which is why (among other things) buying a Tesla went from a mandatory purchase if you care about "saving the planet" to the Mark of the Beast.
I'm not sure I've ever heard of anyone who could so intensely destroy his opponents' ability to think and who so completely unraveled them emotionally as Donald J. Trump.
And yet the one idea that survives in the rubble, like a fireproof safe, is their belief that they are the wise, educated, enlightened, compassionate and tolerant ones. They would rather relinquish their lives than give this one up.
I started out this post by writing that it's neat that all you need to do is cite the quotations, without commentary. I'd said that they are self-refuting, which they are. But I kept stewing on this particularly stupid statement, and I could not help but revert to my tireless rebutter ways.
"Until the GOP and Trump care more about immigrants, women’s rights, people of color’s history and equality, healthcare for people, gun victims, the poor and hungry, and our Constitution than they do Teslas, then don’t ask me to feel bad about the damage to Teslas around the world.”
That is an absolute whopper of a crock of crap. First of all, immigrants come through border checkpoints. Anyone who did not is an intruder, not an immigrant. No one has done anything against immigrants since Trump was inaugurated!
Women's rights? You're trying to fill all the women's bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams with men pretending to be women. The whole reason those places exist is to exclude men, generally for the safety and peace of mind of women (who are the prey of a small minority of predatory men, which women cannot visually distinguish from regular men), and now that more men have decided that being female is really just a feeling, not a biological reality, you expect women to embrace their new "sisters" who are just men acting out the worst stereotypes of female behavior as informed by their male minds.
People of color are equal, of course. It was the GOP that was formed to end slavery, which it did. The KKK was always the terror wing of the Democratic Party, and all these years later, they are still judging people on the color of their skin rather than the content of their character (sorry, MLK Jr, by modern standards, you're a white supremacist!). There is only one party today striving to live up to the words of MLK Jr, and it is not the Democrats.
Healthcare for people? The only reason it's become so dysfunctional is because government has gotten so involved in it. You only seek more government involvement! Every time you try to fix something with more government, it gets worse, which you then blame on everyone else, and use it as a reason for more government. Stop!
There are no gun victims. Guns are inanimate objects. They do not victimize people. Democrats do, mostly. Sometimes with guns, sometimes not.
When you style your party as the savior of the downtrodden, as the Democrats have, you need only one thing to succeed: Lots and lots of downtrodden people. The more the better.
There is one party who benefits by a permanent, helpless underclass, and it's not the one you have just accused. If you actually ever delivered help to people that would get them out of victimhood, they would have no more use for you. That's why you will never actually help them. You succeed when more people than ever are helpless and hopeless, which gives you control over them. We succeed when more people than ever are upwardly mobile and do not need any government assistance, which gives that control back to themselves.
Our Constitution? Give me a break. We both know you have no respect for it. You know, written by white supremacists, hopelessly tainted, institutional racism, doesn't contain any positive rights, prevents too many of the wonderful things you want to do if you don't pretend it doesn't say what it says.
Which brings us to Teslas.
I don't particularly care about Teslas. I loathe EVs, and all Teslas are EVs. Most of their buyers are leftists, whom I also do not particularly like. Yet it is only people on the right who seem to care that leftist Tesla owners are being attacked by... more leftists. I don't like Teslas or the leftists who own most EVs, but ya know, I just despise domestic terrorists. Nearly all of those, of course, are Democrats. For all of the claims about how MAGA types and nonexistent white supremacists are the biggest terror threats, I can't help but notice the complete opposite being the case. It's Democrats. It's ALWAYS Democrats.
Re: Teslas. Their virtue-signaling owners are now learning the meaning of the term "useful idiots" (often attributed to Vladimir Lenin). They were loved by the left because they were "saving the environment" or something, until they weren't. Now none of that matters because they own a vehicle built by a man they hate, so they are deserving of the destruction of their property. I wonder how they feel about Volkswagen, since that brand originated (in the form of the Beetle designed by Ferdinand Porsche in the 1930's) because of HITLER's desire for a "people's car."
Little argument with most of what you wrote, but I believe efforts to deport green card holders and student visas on the basis of unwelcome speech can easily be considered actions against legal immigrants.
Green card holders and visa holders are our guests. If, by their own actions, they make themselves unwelcome in the home of their hosts, they will be asked to leave. It's a two way street... if they don't want to behave like respected, and respectable, guests, then they will not be treated as such.
I don't think that's what the guy was talking about, though. They have a habit of calling the teeming hordes of invaders "immigrants."
Thank you, thank you, thank you for saying this. When he starts deporting millions of natal Americans, then we have a problem. Until then it's simple. You are protected under the constitution if you are a citizen. If you are not, you don't have the same rights and priviledges. Full stop. Also, please ask the natal Americans who sat in prison under the previous administration without a trial whether or not they were protected. These people conditionally use our constitution when it suits them.
“Trump escalates threats against those who destroy Tesla vehicles” — Washington Post headline
Remember when the code for journalistic ethics existing and the major newspapers had real editors on staff that would prevent this type of "opinion masquerading as news" headline from being published? The historical experienced editor would have axed the entire premise of that headline and probably the article as not being relevant news. The actual story is that the federal government justice department is doing its legal job investigating and prosecuting people that engage in politically oriented violence and property damage. That is a non-story as we would expect the justice department to do its job.
What pisses me off... just Google "political protest rights" and you will get two pages of links to various liberal-activist-supporting resources that are quite specific in advising protestors what they can and cannot do within their 1A rights. When they burn or otherwise damage property in political protests, they are both breaking local and state criminal laws... probably several... and they are also breaking federal laws. Allowing these perps and jerks to get away with that behavior is a significant problem as clearly if they ignore all that advice for what they can and cannot do, they will just escalate their violence and property destruction.
My husband is asking why I’m sighing and shaking my head. Usually Brad’s column arrives at home on a Friday at G&T time, but we’re in Japan just now and at this precise moment I don’t have access to alcohol ….
Wending my way gingerly through the minefield of crap to Ross Douthat's magnificent, dead-on quote and observation....how is it possible this guy is employed by the NYT?!
Back in T. Roosevelt's day there was a flurry of libel and slander law suits he brought against others, and others against him. Although that was a problem in wasting much of the court's time while also being a conflict with 1A rights... it seems to me that we do need some legal tools to combat the slander and libel from people in positions of power and influence. Today we have Democrats just spouting lies and spewing hate... gaslighting their followers by negative branding political opponents in ways that should be considered a civil crime. I understand that Musk is finally going after some of these scummy Democrats for their vile mouthy invectives, but I think the save the world from the radicals and the establishment Regime that funds them, I think we need a clear-path court system to put a lid on how far the negative branding can go. A national politician or government official calling someone a Nazi or Hitler for example... that should result in significant civil fines.
Kinziger is right: How hypocritical are Republicans for boycotting Bud Light (and not torching their factories) while complaining about the Tesla boycotts (accompanied by attacks on its cars and dealerships and charging stations). Such snowflakes victims. Take another bow on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert; you've earned your progressive cred.

Exactly. That last part amazes me.
"like a fireproof safe".........love it, perfect!
Are Democrats and their media drones actively trying to out stupid each other? Each week it seems to get more hilarious and stupid! 😲

Yes! 💯
"You must get your musty hands off our money or go to Moscow, you musty moo, moo, moo.”
Rep. Cleaver is under the illusion it's his party's money. This tells you all you need to know. What a crook. The whole lot of them.

Brad only does this column once a week, but even so, I'm starting to suffer serious stupidity exhaustion.
My husband is asking why I’m sighing and shaking my head. Usually Brad’s column arrives at home on a Friday at G&T time, but we’re in Japan just now and at this precise moment I don’t have access to alcohol ….
Joy Behar. ROFL.
Joy Reid is still relevant?
Have to recalculate odds of Jasmine Crockett overtaking JR for dumbest takes of the week.
Joy Reids (lack of) intelligence is always amusing. Although I wish she were the author of the moo moo money quote too.

You find the most insufferable quotes. Thank God I've had some whiskey, for the sake of my blood pressure.
This is such a fun compilation, Brad. It's nice to see how the brain-dead progressives keep doubling down on their neuroses.
Kinziger is right: How hypocritical are Republicans for boycotting Bud Light (and not torching their factories) while complaining about the Tesla boycotts (accompanied by attacks on its cars and dealerships and charging stations). Ross Douthat just wrote his resignation letter to the Cancel Culture publication the NTY. Well, someone intelligent will hire him. Maybe Newsmax.
There is so much elite human capital there it is amazing. Sarcastic.
Sorry Democrats you're fucked and will not be in power again this century.
