Jeffrey Tucker's eloquent description of the authoritarian COVID insanity and its effects on his outlook about our culture and politics is powerful and describes almost exactly the feelings I have about the whole pathetic shitshow.....
“Kamala Harris is modest in stature...." puts me in mind of that famous Churchill quote about Clement Atlee (UK Prime Minister after the Labour electoral landslide in 1945): "Mr Atlee is a modest man......and he has much to be modest about".
Senator John Kennedy’s quote about Washington people “I know many people in Washington D.C. that would unplug your life support to charge their cell phone.” perfectly explains the consistent appeal of “outsider” candidates such as Trump or Reagan or Truman to Americans. We don’t want to be ruled over by an uncaring & corrupt upper class of career politicians or their scions in perpetuity.
They're just like the other racists, race is all that matters and the whole point of much of their work is that you can't stop being white so the struggle their grift is based on is eternal. Look at the replies to his tweet, tons of vile antisemites. They deserve each other.
“I find something fascinating about people like Taibbi & Greenwald who skip from leftist to rightist politics without ever even dabbling in being chill and moderate.”
Like a political party that used to (claim to) be anti-war, pro free-speech, pro worker, against big corporations and against big pharma. I'm fascinated too.
I'm sure NewsNation immediately fact checked Rep. Goldman? And is Joy Reid upset that Trump is muscling in her turf with his alleged lying? That's her job!
“When I was a kid growing up in Nebraska, being gay was illegal. It’s still technically illegal.” that's why Tim Walz married a woman? Maybe he should have checked the fine-print...
Yglesias’ whole brand is to occupy the exact center of the Overton Window, untethered from any underlying political principles. If he lived in Stalinist Russia, he’d be writing 5,000 word analyses of the optimal number of people to purge.
It also seems to me that he sees nothing wrong with being super-partisan as a journalist. Taibbi and Greenwald often go where the story is no matter whose side it serves, if anything they're usually against the corrupt and powerful as all journalists should be.

"Again, nearly the whole of the top 1/3 of society was just fine with this, and certainly raised no objection. "
If he means top 1/3 measured by income or wealth, then my wife and I easily qualify. And, no, we ere NOT OK with it. As for raising an objection, a people who had enough media presence to get noticed tried, and were immediately attacked/canceled/whatever. The government and MSM brokered no dissent from their narrative.
And I think the number of people who were just fine with it was a lot higher than 1/3, the real question is how many people knew it was wrong but supported it anyways because it benefited them?
We live in two states. Wyoming and Hawaii. Needless to say, the states and our local communities reacted very differently. One small anecdote. At one point in 2021, the mayor local community in Driggs Idaho (we are very close to the border, and Driggs is nearest town with actual businesses, bars, restaurants, shops, etc.) Ordered the mask mandate, which had been lifted several months prior, be reinstated. Must have been one of those surgy-times. Around 80-90% of the locals simply ignored the mandate. No one was enforcing it, other than the local medical clinic -- who had their own mandate in any event. There were no protests, or organized "resistance". It was simply ignored.
"The reason why it doesn’t end his career is because his supporters are just as despicable.” — The Nation’s Elie Mystal, musing with Joy Reid about why Trump pays no consequences for his “constant lies”
There you have it. Half the ectorate... the same that Democrax establishment has jackbooted into economic oblivion over the last 6 decades are despicable. Oh and racist, semi-facsists, Irredeemable deplorables... per the privileged well-off and over-educated. I hate the "us against them" play, but how can any of not go there.
Not to mention this is coming from supporters of a party whose candidate deplores the opposition as being divisive. Call me crazy, but I think calling half the country despicable or deplorable sounds kind of divisive to me.
“I find something fascinating about people like Taibbi & Greenwald who skip from leftist to rightist politics without ever even dabbling in being chill and moderate.”
What does this even mean? That they don't staunchly attack one side consistently?
I read the [Jonathan Chait] article. Which states early on "...Matt Taibbi, a popular commentator who has migrated from liberal-hating leftist to liberal-hating Trump apologist..." So anyone who fails to accuse Trump being evil incarnate is a Trump apologist. I guess this includes me, even though I always add a disclaimer that I still loathe Trump. The article pretty much misrepresents the Taibbi article it discusses.
i got sucked into the hit man article he referenced blow that. Killed a 1/2 hour of office time i did not really have. lol
also, I felt sucked in as it started to make me think of Goodfellas. These guys are sociopaths and pathological liars. They know how to tell great stories to writers. They aren't really true but they are great stories. i got the whiff of that after reading this story
The comments from Tucker also leads to another conclusion. These people feel superior and their wokeness gives them a moral superiority over everyone that has gone before them and allows them to eem the constitution and concepts like Free Speech as outdated concepts from an unenlightened time. (They would miss the irony of a statement like that to, regarding The Enlightenment.) Their wealth and power are markers of their moral superiority and their ability to leverage that to increase their wealth and impoverish the deplorables just proves they are the Chosen. In their final triumph I cannot imagine them letting the deplorable live and if so it would be some form of permanent servitude.

Same. Almost eerie how similar
Me too.
that Jeffery Tucker quote perfectly describes my entire experience and perception about Covid and the world after. the veil was fully lifted.
I can't count the number of times I've used the phrase "the scales have fallen from my eyes."

Senator Kennedy is a treasure. He captured the essence of the swamp creatures and the elites in a single perfect sentence. Love that guy!
Exactly, Kennedy has the courage, intelligence, and wit to fearlessly confront and eviscerate leftists....indeed a national treasure!
Even worse are the people who would follow an order to pull the plug blindly over and over again if told by an authority.
To Tim Wise I’d say, “How about you stop looking at the color of people’s skin as the primary indicator of their character?”

Excellent comeback.

I think we bear some responsibility for letting it happen. I admit I p[robably said less because it kept peace in my house. and i feel guilty for that

Honestly being called despicable by those fucking people is almost a compliment, like not being endorsed by Dick Cheney.
And it created a market for "Despicable Me" t-shirts, assuming the copyright issues could be worked out.

where do I send the bill for lost time at work when I get diverted by one of those articles?
Yes, I was just bemoaning the 10 minutes I wasted on the Jonathan Chait article referenced by Matt Yglesias.

I'd almost forgotten how much I despise Tim Wise.

Let Mr. UnWise spew his abject bullshit, it just reveals what CRT and the progs are pushing. People are revolted by the anti-white agenda.
The Harpers article is interesting, but, by God is it poorly written.
