I’m still shocked at how completely unhinged the left has become.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that they've fully bought into the hallucinatory fantasy of a second Trump term equating to the resurrection of the Third Reich and the end of Our Democracy™. Convinced of this, they've given themselves the green light to engage in the most extreme rhetoric and become fucking lunatics.

I’d like to ask them why he wasn’t Hitler the first term. Unique opportunity here with 4 years out of office to ask some questions like that.

That's the past. The past does not exist. It has never existed. There is only the future, and the survival of Our Democracy.

Yes. But in yet another instance of their complete indifference to consistent principles, they are pointing to Biden’s “great record of accomplishment” as a reason to ignore the obvious about his future abilities. When it suits them, only the past matters. Of course in this instance, past performance is completely irrelevant. Hey, Grandpa used to be a race car driver! That means he should keep the car keys even though he’s going blind!

Vindman has a point. Four years and Trump did nothing to stop the Ukraine war that began two years after he left office. Some ‘Pre-Cog’ he turned out to be.

To be fair, it's not like Putin woke up one day, took a look at a world map for the first time in years and said to his people: "What's Ukraine? Why isn't it Russia?"

On the other hand, when Trump held back a weapons shipment (though for reasons not having to do with Russia) they impeached him.

I very much doubt there would be a ruined Ukraine if Trump were in power now.

Expand full comment
Ministry of Truth's avatar

Probably, though perhaps a smaller Ukraine with a few mostly independent regions in the east. That is if Trump managed to stop the weapons shipments, military training and exercises and NATO expansion. Perversely the war seems to have achieved the goal of increasing European defense spending, a lot of which goes to the US.

That's the part that gets me -- and that Holly Mathnerd pointed out in her post today: We already know what Trump is like as president. He makes fun of people, fires others, and tweets a lot. What he doesn't do is build concentration camps to lock up Rosie O'Donnell and Kathy Griffin.

This is some deep deluded fantasy that Trump is evil incarnate, even though he hasn't done anything to merit the Hitler T-1000 designation. And these people run the culture.

He also didn't go after Hillary Clinton. I would hope that this time, if elected, he explicitly says he could go after all of them but won't because he's got important shit to do.

The left really and truly believed everything they said about Obama being one of the best presidents of all time, and cannot believe that anyone would go against his wishes unless they are racist, fascist, etc. And his chosen successor was Hilary, who Trump, against all odds (that they had concocted out of thin air) beat.

These are people who have been "right" all of their lives, and could not fathom that Obama lost ground continuously his entire presidency for any other reason than that listed above.

And Trump is the avatar of all those flyover people, who represent all the kids who wedgied them at camp, were picked first at basketball, got that white shoe lawyer job, etc.

I'm shocked and appalled, mortified and stupefied! I think a lot of the crazy really only comes out of social media where people use hyperbole for attention.

The quote from Lea DeLaria is a clear illustration of why the First Amendment is so important. We absolutely need to know what we are up against and who the insane people are.

Exactly: allowing free speech also allows you to see who’s sane and who’s not, regardless of whether or not you happen to agree with their viewpoint. Denial of the same simply assists the dishonest in their obfuscation.

I'm grateful for gentry liberals like the deranged Jen Rubin telling us all about "nonwhites" and how they think and feel, and how their lives are a single endless Via Dolorosa that can only be healed by granting unlimited power to gentry liberals like herself. They do it all because of their deep love and concern for the "nonwhites"!

Elections come and go, presidents and their brains wax and wane, but there's one thing that will never and can never change: gentry liberals treating "nonwhites" like mascots and meat puppets and sacred victims to be wheeled out so they can have compassion ejaculated all over their faces.

What is it about liberals and Leftists and their desperate (transparently phony) need to be seen as saviors of the poor and oppressed? Marxists like Engels, Adorno and Marcuse etc spent their lives worshipping the "proletariat", even though the only workers they ever met were their own servants, and now Brownstone Brooklynites like Jen Rubin want us to believe they feel the pain of the "nonwhite" marginalized, who are always at the center of their thoughts.

Jen Rubin and her ilk know all about "white men" and their inherent evil and "nonwhites" and their endless burden of pain, and imagine that no one sees through their moralistic shell game, but the mask has begun to slip from the faces of our gentry liberal "progressive" overclass—their rage and hatred at being denied total rule has become obvious to everyone not in their bubble or in one of their gilded zip codes.

For their next existential tantrum they will tear down anything they can get their hands on, hoping to punish the rest of us for refusing to recognize their moral and intellectual superiority.

Well reasoned, Clever! The Jen Rubins should move out of their white enclaves where every night they gotta trouble themselves to lock their locks, and move to their sweet mascots' neighborhoods where rents and mortgages are much less prohibitive and the doors they usually throw in on the deals aren't littered with metalic monstrosities called "locks" cuz whites are generally kept at bay.

Consider the elite university brain power that must be working Mission Control at MSNBC and that they chose to run THAT chyron.

As if the stress of the office explains the Joe Biden we saw on the debate stage and many MANY other public stages before that. Why, it's exacty the same as Obama getting a few gray hairs on his way to his mid-50s and Trump struggling to find more resources for his comb-over.

Then there's the Mystal and Friedman quotes, which are part of a pathology among the left of exaggerated emoting for social credit, because nothing wins an argument like doing "muh feelings" harder.

Yes, Elie Mystal, you are now a GOOD PERSON for hugging your kid and saying debates don't matter, and you're not at all being an overwrought drama queen. (Because all of that really happened exactly as you said it did.)

Same for you, Mr. Friedman, as your tears reveal the humanity and reluctance behind your expert, sympathetically rendered advice for Pres. Biden to drop out of the race. What would it have been -- about 3am in Lisbon as you wept, alone in your hotel room? Was there a balcony overlooking the Tagus? Did you step to the balustrade, feeling the moment, and allow your tears to fall to the river below and be carried by the currents across the Atlantic, in a near straight line to your home office in Manhattan? And as you gazed up to the night sky full of stars, instead of feeling insignificant, your heart felt full, for you knew you would pen an encomium worthy of the Friedman name and the good man for whom it would be written.

“The far-right justices occupying the Supreme Court have never been an unhoused single mother living out of their car while working a full-time job.”

First of all, I thought mother is a bigoted term, she should check her calendar for the appropriate term (uterus carrier?). Second, if I were a Supreme Court Justice (far-right or otherwise) I also wouldn't let someone life out of my car - I'm not a native English speaker but that's whose car she means by "their", right?)

“Ya’ll just tell me who the nominee is gonna be. Let me know when you guys are finished fighting amongst yourself [sic], who I gotta vote for in November to keep Hitler out the White House. That’s all I wanna know: who I gotta vote for to keep Hitler out the White House.”

Luckily Hitler isn't on the ballot since he's not a natural born US citizen. Being dead doesn't seem to be a exclusion criterion anymore.

I really thought Taylor Lorenz would make the quotes this week. Perusing her Twitter it seems she's still on the topic of masks...

Nothing can surprise me now. Democrats, completely under the progressives' control, form the core of an authoritarian effort that has made us into a third-world country run by people who hate America. The only saving grace is that the administration is utterly incompetent.

I read about half that article on the google universal library (ran out of time to finish), and it was interesting. I assumed when I started it that they got sued by authors for digitizing their content, and it turns out that’s exactly what happened. Although. As a reader, I love the idea of one place to search for books, even if reading them interior entirety isn’t available.
