Molly Jong-Fast looks like she is trying to be a literal cat-lady. claws. stripes. everything.

I read this point somewhere: If DEI is such a great and wonderful thing, why would it be a bad thing to say someone is a DEI hire?

Exactly, all DEI does is eliminate all the racism and sexism from the selection process and the most qualified candidate is never a white heterosexual male, as evidenced by the complete lack of current or historical achievement of any member of that group.

Without looking it up and as a non-native speaker on the comment by Letitia James: Isn't the plural "attorneys general", not "attorney generals"?

Really enjoyed the Tablet piece on Obama. Unlike many years others, I see America's unraveling as beginning definitively with Obama’s 2nd term. Hope and Change turned into CHANGE only and it was and continues to be for the worst. He is still entirely too involved and much of the issues we are watching today are his active participation in destroying what was once a decent, if not perfect, nation.

I think it started earlier. The bank bailout after the 2008 crash for example…

I was such a huge Obama supporter in 2008. Over the course of his two terms, disappointment piled on disappointment. These days, I'm afraid I look at him and Michelle as sellouts and hypocrites, with an unfortunate amount of influence in modern politics.

So was I. It was my first vote that I felt wasn't influenced by my parents or grandparents. By 2012, I had buyers remorse. By 2016, I was sick.

Molly Jong-Fast is so well-educated, she's transferred the undergraduate ability to come up with bullshit, creative intepretations of "narrative" and applied them to someone advocating the value of having children as really being about white supremacy.

Gov. Gretchen Witmer: I think the collective worry on the part of politicians was that if you didn't listen to the hysterical worrying and virtue signaling of the teachers union, you'd lose their vote.

About that L.A. Times article on Kamala Harris-as-foodie: They could have written a story on how shallow it would be to elect a president based on their food choices. That when you write about Whole Foods and Bolognese being political liabilities, you're really reminding her elite base that she's one of them. How's that for creative interpretation, L.A. Times? Does it rank anywhere near your ability to frame Harris's enjoyment of cooking as "subversive" and Trump's love of well-done steaks as a "strategy"? You stuck-up, elitist shills.

One of the many things that annoy me about Trump is his inability to properly articulate his feelings and thoughts. The problem with Harris isn’t that she pretends to be black after identifying as Indian. The issue is that she has nothing in common with anyone in the African American working class. Her disconnect with working class African Americans is the reason she adopts a phony southern drawl when speaking to a black audience in Georgia - because this is what she thinks working class black women sound like. She is clueless. She has grown up with the wealth and privilege associated with having two parents who taught at Berkeley, and her family roots are in Jamaica, not the African American community.

"One of the many things that annoy me about Trump is his inability to properly articulate his feelings and thoughts." ??? I love Trump and I'm all in for him, but - really?? First of all, duh, he's a guy. Second of all, if he needs to clearly articulate anything, it is his policies and the truly existential threat of a Harris victory. Furthermore, we've HAD an "articulate" smooth-talker in the White House. And we can see where that has led us today.

You night love Trump. I certainly don’t. I think he’s an obnoxious boor who says stupid things all the time. It doesn’t mean I hate him either. I also believe he is authentic, loves his country and has a deep connection with the working class and middle class. The Dems and the regime media have been completely dishonest about Trump and my contempt for them is profound. None of this requires me to like Trump, even a little bit. He opposes open borders and net zero. That’s good enough for me.

I don't like Trump either, and I take with a grain of salt his "deep connection with the working and middle class". I agree with everything else you said.

It's very noticeable that a lot of the media is now fully engaged playing defense for Harris, not really going after Trump all that much and the attacks on J.D. Vance seem pretty feeble as well - calling a Republican racist and sexist really isn't an innovative strategy. I think they're still trying to shore up support in their ranks with the "she's really not that bad actually" narrative. Also in trying to rewrite history about the whole "border czar" issue.

Edit: Another thought about this, their strategy is also fairly high risk because they are giving a lot of air-time to Republican talking points. I think that already backfired with Biden once people saw that the Republicans weren't wrong about Bidens mental state. There's probably a few people who think "huh, she does have a weird laugh at inappropriate times" or "yeah, these childless women over 30 really are a bit kooky". It's not a good defense.

The regime media continues to debase itself at the feet of the Dem party. The most recent attacks on Vance have something to do with wearing eye liner. Seriously WTF!! Is this the standard of political discourse now? Meanwhile, Harris hasn’t conducted a single interview or scrum in two weeks. But ya, nothing to see here.

"There is justified resentment against people who talk like this. This resentment is rooted in the collective power they have over people’s lives and the destructive and deranged manner in which they wielded it. The impulse to slap back at them with puerile epithets should be resisted, since it recasts this class as pitiable and oppressed rather than oppressive.” — Wesley Yang

So long as people like Freddie deBoer place more importance on the racial identity & gender as qualifications for the job, the longer unqualified individuals, such Kamala (take another toke) Harris will be seriously considered for the position. DEI is part of the Liberal mythology.

You might have misread it, he is only stating three contradictory beliefs espoused by Democrats. If you read his whole article it's clear that he says holding those 3 beliefs at the same time makes no sense because they are mutually exclusive. If the goal is to beat Trump at all cost you would nominate another white guy because the racists in the country aren't going to vote for a black woman - in the past I said that may be the strategy for them to get her out of the way (the country isn't ready yet).

It's really staggering to see the number of contradictions in their beliefs, it's the party of cognitive dissonance. The whole article by Freddie is worth a read, it's echoing a sentiment I alluded to before that many on the left aren't too happy about another rigged primary process where the party elites pick the candidate.

Jim, didn't mean to sound snarky earlier. But you make my point perhaps better than me: none of us have to "love" or "like" the candidate we are voting for. We just need to know his/her policies, and be good with them for 4 years. Harris far more likely to ruin our country beyond redemption - therefore I'm voting for Trump.
