The Liberal Patriot’s Nate Moore: “Since Covid, the biggest blue states have dramatically lagged behind the biggest Republican states in population growth. Between 2020 and 2024, California, New York, and Illinois each lost more than 100,000 thousand residents. Florida and Texas, meanwhile, both gained around 2 million residents.”
As Ezra Klein noted this month in his New York Times column, if current population patterns hold, Democrats will suffer a devastating blow after the 2030 census: The party will lose as many as a dozen House seats and electoral votes. With such an Electoral College, Dems could win all the states Harris carried in 2024 — plus Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — and still lose the White House.
The 2024 FIRE Faculty Survey Report found that “while nearly three-quarters of faculty say a liberal individual would be a positive fit in their department, only one in five say the same about a conservative individual.”
Interesting information found in this New York Times interview of David Shor, head of data science at Blue Rose Research, “which is a big Democratic consulting firm that does a huge amount of political surveying, data interpretation and message testing.”
A new study from Media Matters found that “Right-leaning online shows have nearly five times the following of left-leaning online shows.” In all, “65 right-leaning online shows had followings larger than 1 million, but only 21 left-leaning online shows boast comparable followings.”
A new University of Southern California survey found huge partisan gaps regarding DEI in higher education. For example, while 58% of Republicans say mandated DEI statements are never appropriate, only 23% of Democrats feel the same way. Similarly, while 47% of Republicans say required DEI courses are never appropriate, only 10% of Democrats do.
Republicans used to be “the party of the educated,” but now educational attainment is significantly higher for Democrats than Republicans, and the gap continues to widen.
Politico: “Congressional Democrats have typically enjoyed higher popularity with their voting base than their Republican counterparts. But the trauma of the 2024 presidential election defeat appears to have ruptured that relationship. A review of Quinnipiac University’s annual first-quarter congressional polling reveals that, for the first time in the poll’s history, congressional Democrats are now underwater with their own voters in approval ratings.”
Gallup:
A Public Religion Research Institute survey found that “Democratic voters (23%) are nearly five times as likely as Republican voters (5%) to say they will be spending less time with certain family members because of their political views.”

A College Pulse “Civic Literary Assessment of College Students” found that 57% would flee rather than stay and fight if the US were invaded. Men were more likely than women (60%-34%) to say they would stay and fight. Strong Republicans (72%) were more likely than strong Democrats (29%) to say they would.
This New York Times piece on “how COVID changed everything” highlights some worrying trends.
Gallup: Only 13% of Americans say television reporters have very high or high honesty and ethical standards, a new all-time low.
Gallup also found that the news media is the least trusted group among 10 U.S. civic and political institutions involved in the democratic process.
New NBC News polling data illustrates the cultural and political gulf separating white men without college degrees and white women with college degrees.
The Wall Street Journal: “Major demographic shifts have put men and women on divergent paths. That’s left more women resigned to being single.”
The Guardian:
Echelon Insights pollster Patrick Ruffini: “It’s impossible to discuss the youth gender gap without noticing that it’s mostly a marriage gap. Singles at all ages are 30+ points apart in voting. Among 18-24 year olds, it’s 44 points. The gender gap is much reduced among married people, and disappears between ages 30-50!”
Gallup: 76% of Republicans strongly disagree that marriage is an outdated institution, compared with 29% of Democrats.
